The High School Voting Network seeks to prepare and inspire high school students to register and vote starting at age 18 through active participation in a national high school voting network that participates in civic debate and online votes on important and relevant issues.
The High School Voting Network supplementary curriculum is an 8-week cohort-based course designed to work within an 11th or 12th grade social studies classroom. The course is built around a weekly proposal that is researched, debated, and voted on by high school students across the country. Students are able to interact across the country through the use of a secure online platform and voting results are shared with elected officials, from local to national.
Our Democracy depends on active participation by our citizens. Students deserve the opportunity to practice civil debate and voting in High School. We know that a high percentage of registered voters vote in each election, but although 69.1% of the U.S. citizen voting-age population was registered to vote, only 49.1% of 18-24 year olds in the U.S. were registered to vote in the November 2022 election*.
